Friends of Scozz Foundation
One thing about the music community is that we pull together when a friend needs our help. Scozz, the drummer for Asphalt Valentine, is currently facing some difficult challenges. His wife and love of his life, Mary Beth (aka Devon) is very ill. Aside from the obvious emotional struggles they both must be facing, the medical costs have simply become overbearing. All we can do for the emotional challenges is hope for a speedy recovery and keep them both in our thoughts and prayers. For the financial challenges, WE CAN DO SOMETHING!
From Scozz,
Thanks in advance for all of this. Things are really bad for us right now. Mary Beth has been resheduled for aortic bypass surgery on Feb. 20th @ St. Josephs Hospital on Peachtree St. Near Northside Hospital.. She has circulatory disease. She will be in the hospital for a minimum of 5 days with the first 2 days in ICU. The doctor will perfom an artial graft to replace the closed up section that is affecting the circulation in her right leg. She faces a 6-8 week recovery time once she is released. The foundation was set up to help offset the medical costs that are not covered by my health insurance as well as help with the lost wages I have incurred while staying home to care for her.
She has not been well for close to 9 years. She has a few other things wrong with her female problem wise. Her leg problems really started to be noticable after a fall, which she did some damage to her left foot in 2001. The pains she felt in her leg was thought to be residule of that fall, where she cut her foot and seperated the tendon. She was misdiagnosed on several occasions until a foot specialist sent her to a Circulatory/Vascular specialist (Dr. Lewenstien) for a problem on her left foot where her toes looked like they were rotting off. Very painful. The proper tests were run and they determined it was vascular disease. At one point her arteries in her legs were 100% blocked in her right and 90% blocked in her left leg. She also has extreemly high Cholesterol which is a contributing factor. This is odd because she is a vegatarian. The doctor determined that her condition is hereditary and rare considering her age of 42.
